what is mainstream?   July 10th, 2009 by Nikola

brushing teeth

when clients say “i want to be mainstream” they mean “i want more money”. many times it would be easier to just say “i want more money” even though this is by default a constant request. the only request.

mainstream? what is mainstream? i have no idea. is toothpaste mainstream? maybe. could be. most people i know use toothpaste although i am sure in their minds it is extremely marginal and annoying. toothpaste is extreme. it is a chemical with fake tastes someone convinced you long time ago is good for your teeth. there is no alternative so we go for toothpaste. we believe that someone who told us this and almost everybody else uses it. word of mouth! toothpaste maybe became mainstream? i am sure there are plenty of places in the world where toothpaste is not mainstream.

if anything focuses on web it definitely is not mainstream. google is niche. so your small internet shop or whatever it is that you do online is about million light years away from mainstream.

you can be mainstream within a niche? now we are just wasting time with useless discussions and wordplay.

just say “i want more money” and we slowly build it up. terms like mainstream are extremely confusing and impractical (to me at least), especially online where things change non stop (yet nothing really changed in about a decade).

good old fashion selling works best. sell one, then sell another one, then sell one more and pray it keeps happening. at the end of the day it is just same old sales stuff humans have been doing since the dawn of time. sell sell sell. i give you this and you give me this. one shiny thing for another. very rarely you need something, most of the time you do not.

mainstream? huh… what is that? air? i am confused!

found the video on seth’s blog who found it on jibyollee youtube channel.

wikipedia on toothpaste: however when cleaning teeth with a toothbrush with toothpaste, the essential cleaning is done by the mechanical brushing, and not by the active toothpaste chemicals. most toothpaste contains trace amounts of chemicals which are toxic when ingested, and is not intended to be swallowed.

video shows some do not know what a browser is. i am guessing not many people know what a toothpaste is. :)
